The reason I tell you this is to impress upon you that this is no cake walk. Becoming a firefighter is not for everyone. It is not uncommon to have several hundred applications for just a few positions.

So if this is your dream you need to set your determination level to high and let nothing stop you until that badge is pinned to your chest!

Let me introduce myself. My name is Roger Waters, I've been a firefighter for 21 years. I'm a Battalion Chief with a city Fire Department in Colorado. Our Department serves a community of nearly 100,000 citizens. In 2010 our department ran 9800 calls. Nice busy department.

I also teach Fire Science classes, Emergency Medical classes and at the Fire Academy. I enjoy watching, and helping, young fire fighters embark on their careers.

 
Striving for a position as a firefighter is a tough, competitive atmosphere.  You must be prepared and persistent to succeed. It took me 3 years of hard work, and commitment to finally land a career position.
